Frequently asked questions

What will Counselling sessions look like?

I currently offer online sessions using the platform Google Meet. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
It is your time and your session, so you can bring whatever feels important to you. No one session will be the same, as everyone has different challenges and needs.
If we have agreed to work on a particular theme or goal, we can structure or plan sessions around this.
I aim to create a non-judgmental, compassionate space for us to work out together how best to support you.
I studied different therapy modalities or theories during my training. I think there is a place for models, theories, tools - as every individual is unique, and there is no 'one size fits all'. Therefore, if my clients are looking for tools or theories to understand themselves, this is something I can support with. This is called working in an integrative way, or integrative counselling.

What days/times are you available?

I work Monday-Friday.
I do offer early appointments from 8am and late appointments starting at 7pm.
My availability varies so it is best to contact me via email or the contact button above to check if we can find time that works for both of us.
When I have planned holidays, I will let you know at least 2 weeks in advance as a minimum.

How do I contact you?

You can either contact me through the contact button on the header of this website which will take you to the contact form on the homepage.
Alternatively, you can email me at hello@kstephenson-counselling.co.uk

I aim to reply at the latest within 24 hours, however I may take longer if it is a weekend.

If you need help now, please click here for my Help & Support page.

What are your fees?

I charge £50 per 50 minute session.

How do I know which therapy/therapist is right for me?

There are many different types of therapy modalities and therapists. If you haven't had therapy before, it may be helpful to read about the different types. The BACP website provides information on these, including 'Person-Centred' and 'Integrative' which are ways that I work in my practice.

I offer a 20 minute initial call to discuss the potential of working together, as I know choosing a therapist can be difficult. Please contact me to arrange this if you are interested. I understand the importance of finding someone you feel you can connect with in order to feel supported.

What are your qualifications?

Counselling is not a regulated profession in the UK. Therefore it can be important to ask whether your Counsellor is trained and working ethically.

I completed an undergraduate degree over 4 years in Psychology, a 1 year post-graduate certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions and a 2 year Masters Degree in Counselling.

I previously worked in the NHS for 4 years supporting a range of clients using Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions. During my Masters degree in Counselling, I trained in 2 different placements over an 18 month period (Lincolnshire Centre for Grief & Loss, and Talking Counselling).

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) which means I work within their ethical framework and meet their standards for training, experience and commitment to supervision and continued professional development.
The BACP can request audits from me at any time, to evidence that standards and commitments are being met.
